About the bridge

The Bridge of Lights is a permanent digital memorial. It's a bridge with one million candle spaces on it — each one a name, some years, and a few words from someone who loved them. When you light a candle, it stays on the bridge permanently. No expiry date. No subscription. No algorithm deciding when someone is forgotten.

Anyone who has lost someone they loved. A parent, a partner, a child, a friend, a colleague, a pet. Someone you never got to say goodbye to. Someone society didn't always give you space to grieve. There is no hierarchy of loss on this bridge. Every flame belongs here.

The Bridge of Lights was built by Jack, after losing his dad, his uncle and his nan. He couldn't find anywhere online that felt right to remember them — so he built one. Before launching, he spoke with people working in grief and bereavement support to make sure it was genuinely helpful and caused no harm.

The bridge closes. No more candles can be lit. The ones already burning stay there permanently. This isn't marketing - it's a genuine limit. One million spaces.

Lighting a candle

The Bridge of Lights is an online memorial rather than a physical place, so there’s no bridge to walk across. That means you can visit it from anywhere in the world, at any time of day, on your phone, tablet or computer. Each candle on the bridge is lit in memory of someone who is loved and missed, and you’re welcome to come back to yours whenever you like.

Click Light a Candle on the homepage. Enter the name of the person you're remembering, their years, and a short message. Complete your payment. Your candle will appear on the bridge immediately and you'll receive a unique candle number by email.

A candle with no extras is £1/$1.50. That's all. No subscription, no account, no ongoing cost. One candle, there permanently. A candle a coloured flame, attached song and a certificate, costs £6.

Yes. Each candle is for one person, so you'll need to go through the process once for each person you'd like to remember. Each candle gets its own unique number.

Yes. There is no time limit on who belongs here. Whether you lost someone last week or thirty years ago, their light belongs on the bridge.

The name on the candle is the name of the person being remembered, not the person lighting it. Your name does not appear on the bridge.

Yes - 70 characters. Enough for something true. Not so much that it becomes difficult. Some of the most moving dedications on the bridge are the shortest ones.

After you've lit a candle

Every candle has a unique number. You can use that number to find it again at any time using the Find a Candle search on the homepage. Keep your candle number somewhere safe - in your phone, in your email, somewhere you'll always have it.

You'll receive an email confirmation with your unique candle number. You can also purchase a printable certificate - a beautifully designed memorial document you can print, frame and share.

Contact us as soon as you notice. We'll correct it. Email hello@bridgeoflights.org

Yes. Every candle has its own unique URL which you can share with anyone. Family members in different parts of the country can all find the same light from wherever they are.

Yes. This is one of the things we're most proud of. A family scattered across the country, or across the world, can all visit the same candle. Same number. Same light. Same bridge. From wherever they are.

The upgrades

When you light a candle you can choose from three optional upgrades.. A coloured flame - a different coloured light for someone whose loss feels different. A song - their favourite song, shown on their candle. A certificate - a beautifully designed printable memorial document. A coloured flame is £2. It costs £1 to attach their song. A PDF certificate costs £2.

Yes. Everything attached to a candle - the flame, the song, the dedication - stays on the bridge permanently.

Memorial pages

A memorial page is one permanent place for someone you love, where everyone who knew them can light a candle together. At the top are their name and your own words about them, in a colour that feels like theirs. Below sit every candle lit from the page, along with a list of the songs people have chosen. It costs £9.99, paid once, and includes your first candle with a coloured flame, their favourite song and a printable certificate.

Share your page’s link, or use the free QR code cards that come with every page. You can download and print them for a funeral, a memorial service or an anniversary. Anyone who opens the link or scans a card can light a candle in a few moments, with the name and years already filled in for them. Candles start from £1, no account is needed, and every candle also takes its own place on the bridge.

Yes. From your account you can update your words, the sign-off and the page’s colour, and you can remove a candle from the page if you’d prefer it wasn’t there. A removed candle will still shine on the main bridge. If the name or years need correcting, just email us and we’ll put it right. Your full name and email aren't shown on the page.
