The Bridge of Lights
Terms of Service
Last updated: October 2026 · Governing law: England & Wales
Please read these terms carefully before purchasing. By buying a candle you agree to these terms in full.
1. Who we are
The Bridge of Lights is operated by Harri Digital Ltd, registered in England and Wales (Company No. 17032672), registered address: 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ, VAT No. GB 520 6158 20. Contact: hello@bridgeoflights.org
2. What you are purchasing
You are buying a digital commemorative memorial light displayed permanently on this website alongside the name, dates, and message you provide. This is entirely a digital product. No physical item will be manufactured, posted, or delivered. You will receive a confirmation email with your unique candle number and receipt.
3. Digital content and your right to cancel
Your candle is digital content that is delivered immediately once payment is confirmed and the candle is displayed on the bridge. By completing your purchase, you expressly consent to the immediate delivery of this digital content and acknowledge that you lose your right to cancel under Regulation 37 of the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. You are asked to confirm this at checkout before paying.
4. Price and payment
Each candle costs the price displayed at checkout, inclusive of applicable taxes. Optional add-ons (coloured flame, song, certificate) are available at the price shown. Payment is processed securely via Stripe. We do not store your card details. This is a one-time charge with no subscriptions or recurring fees of any kind.
We sometimes issue discount codes, including through partners such as funeral directors and hospices. A code applies to a single order, cannot be combined with another code, and has no cash value. Codes may be limited in number, restricted to one use per email address, and withdrawn or expired at any time before an order is placed. Where a code is stated to apply in a particular currency, it can only be used against an order in that currency. If a code reduces your total to nothing, no payment is taken and no charitable donation accrues on that order, since a donation is made per paid transaction.
5. Permanence and availability
We intend every candle to remain permanently on the bridge. However, we cannot guarantee perpetual operation of this website. Should the service be discontinued, we will provide reasonable advance notice by email. Once all 1,000,000 spaces are filled, the bridge closes to new purchases. Existing candles remain displayed.
6. Content guidelines
Submissions must be respectful and relate to a real person, or a much-loved pet, who has passed away. You must not submit offensive, abusive, discriminatory, hateful, false, defamatory, or commercial content. We use automated content moderation to help maintain a respectful environment. If your message is flagged or held for review, you may contact hello@bridgeoflights.org for a human review. We reserve the right to remove violating content without refund.
7. Refund policy
As this is digital content delivered immediately upon purchase with your express consent, all purchases are final and non-refundable in accordance with the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. If you believe you were charged in error, contact hello@bridgeoflights.org and we will investigate.
8. Limitation of liability
Our total liability to you shall not exceed the amount you paid. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential losses. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.
9. Intellectual property
All design, artwork, and branding is owned by Harri Digital Ltd and may not be reproduced without written permission. Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube are trademarks of their owners. We use their names only to say where a song can be heard, and Spotify’s name and logo to credit its song search.
9a. Their song
If you choose the optional “Their song” add-on, you choose a song using a search provided by Spotify, and we show its title and artist on the candle page in a card we design, with links to listen to it on Spotify, Apple Music or YouTube. The add-on fee is for the dedication: naming the song on the memorial. You are not buying the music, and no music is played, hosted, sold or distributed by us. Listening happens on the service the visitor chooses, under that service’s own terms, and may need an account with it. We do not control those services, and a song may be withdrawn from any of them; the dedication on the candle stays either way.
Song search results come from Spotify under Spotify’s Developer Terms. Spotify is not responsible for this site or for the dedication, gives no warranty about either, and may enforce this paragraph as a third-party beneficiary of it.
10. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes are subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. If you are a consumer resident in the EU or EEA, you also retain any mandatory consumer protections available under the laws of your country of residence. We are not obliged to participate in alternative dispute resolution, but if you have a complaint you are welcome to contact us first at hello@bridgeoflights.org.
For EU consumers: the European Commission provides an Online Dispute Resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.
11. Changes
We may update these terms from time to time. The current version, with the date of last update, is always available on this page. If we make significant changes, we will notify affected users by email where possible. Your continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
12. Charitable donations
A minimum of 10p per transaction is donated to UK bereavement charities. The total amount donated depends on the number of paid transactions, so an order reduced to nothing by a discount code does not accrue a donation. Donations are made to UK-registered charities. Unless expressly stated otherwise, we are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting in partnership with any specific charity.
13. Memorial pages
What a memorial page is. A memorial page is a permanent page on this website for one person or pet, at its own address, where the candles lit for them are shown together. Anyone may create one: you do not need to be a relative. A memorial page is bought with a single payment, at the price displayed at checkout. That one payment includes the page, its first candle, and every optional add-on for that first candle (a coloured flame, a song and a certificate). Any of those add-ons you do not choose at checkout can be added to that first candle from your account, at no charge, for 30 days after the page goes live. There is no subscription and no renewal fee. Sections 3 (your right to cancel), 5 (permanence) and 7 (refunds) apply to a memorial page as they do to a candle.
The organiser. The person who creates a page is its organiser, and manages it from their account. The organiser can change the page’s words, sign-off, colour and the short name shown on it at any time, and can correct the full name and the years for 48 hours after the page goes live. After that we make corrections to the name and years on request, free of charge. The organiser can remove any candle from their page, other than the page’s own first candle, and can put it back. A candle removed from a page is not deleted: it stays lit on the bridge exactly as it was. The organiser can also delete their page. Deleting a page does not refund it, and the candles that were on it stay on the bridge.
Lighting a candle from a page. A candle lit from a memorial page carries the name and years shown on that page, and appears on that page as well as on the bridge. The page’s organiser is told that a candle has been lit and is shown its message, but never your name or your email address. The organiser may remove your candle from their page. That does not affect your candle on the bridge, and it is not grounds for a refund. You can take your own candle off a page at any time from your account. If a page is made for someone you have already lit a candle for, we may email you once to ask whether you would like that candle shown on the page. It is added only if you say yes.
What may be written on a page. Everything on a memorial page is public, and the content guidelines in section 6 apply to every word of it. Pages for pets are welcome. In addition, a page’s name, words and sign-off must not contain links or web addresses, appeals for money or donations, or contact details such as a phone number, an email address or a postal address.
Our right to hold, remove, restore, transfer or merge a page. New pages are checked, and a page may be held while a person reads it, during which it is not shown publicly. We may hold or remove a page, restore one we have removed, transfer a page to a different organiser, or merge two pages made for the same person into one, in which case the candles from both are shown together on the page that remains and the other page’s address leads to it. We do this where a page breaks these terms, where it duplicates another page, or where we reasonably believe it is right for the person the page is for and those close to them. A request from a next of kin, for example to take over, correct or remove a page that somebody else made, is considered case by case, and we may ask for evidence of the relationship. We will tell the organiser what we have done wherever we can.
Refunds. A memorial page is digital content delivered immediately, so under section 7 the payment for it is final and non-refundable. If something has gone wrong, contact hello@bridgeoflights.org and we will look at it case by case. If we refund a memorial page in full, the page and its first candle are removed. Candles that other people lit from the page are theirs, and stay on the bridge. If the payment for a page is disputed with the card issuer, the page and its first candle are taken down, and are put back only if the dispute is decided in our favour.
Donations. The purchase of a memorial page is one paid transaction for the purposes of section 12.
